Trivia
Artillery was named after the track “Heavy Artillery” from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal band Tank.
Metallica’s Lars Ulich has named Artillery a huge source of inspiration.
"Allergic to Knowledge" [earlier on entitled "I Don't Wanna Know"] was recorded live in the studio for Danish television in 1989, but subsequently reworked with new lyrics and became "Equal at First". The track ended up on By Inheritance – watch the clip on YouTube.
"Blessed Are the Strong" from the Shellshock demo would show up, much reworked, as "Don’t Believe" on By Inheritance.
German thrashers employed Flemming Rönsdorf for a tour in 1990, but this coalition eventually came to nothing, it appears.
In 1985, Carsten N. Nielsen was asked by Bathory-mastermind Quorthon to join his band for a proposed tour, but the former musician turned down the offer, though. Bathory never went on tour, by the way!
When Peter Thorslund [nicknamed 'The Professor'] joined Artillery in late 1988, he felt unsure on whether to join on a permanent basis – because he wanted to stay loyal to his other band Apocalypse, so Artillery employed Michael ‘Romchael’ Rasmussen on a try-out. It didn’t work, though, and Artillery literally begged and plead Peter Thorslund to join the band on a permanent basis – which he eventually did.In 1990, Artillery a set at The Lienlund Festival in Denmark, with only Morten playing the guitar – Michael had just left the band.
Michael and Morten’s surname is actually Hansen – Stützer is in fact their middle name.
Backing vocals on the track "WWW" from B.A.C.K. came courtesy of Anders Lundemark [Konkhra/Daemon], Lars Mayland [Furious Trauma/Konkhra] and Klaus ‘Hyr’ Hansen [Furious Trauma/Demonica]. Andy Sneap mixed the album.
Morten Stützer played the bass lines on the two tracks ["Khomaniac" and "Beneath the Clay [R.I.P.]" on By Inheritance because Peter Thorslund hadn’t learned the lines yet.
Morten’s first song ever was the music to “All for You”, which was composed on his mother’s organ, followed by “Deeds of Darkness”, which [like most of Morten's contributions to the early Artillery material] was written on the acoustic guitar.
John Mathiasen who was a member of Artillery in 1990 later played with Unleashed Power.
Michael Stützer worked for several years a s a heavy metal DJ, hosting his own radio show Terror Squad.
Danish thrash band Furious Trauma once covered Artillery’s "The Challenge", and Danish metal band Invocator covered "The Eternal War".
Morten and Michael’s Missing Link also covered Artillery – the band played "Time Has Come" and "Terror Squad" live.
